Getting started
Extra Drive is a cloud storage platform built for individuals, freelancers, and small teams who want their files backed up automatically, accessible everywhere, and kept completely private. If you've ever lost a file, missed a backup, or felt like Dropbox or Google Drive was treating you as the product rather than the customer — Extra Drive is for you.
Create a free account at app.extradrive.net — no credit card required. Download the desktop app for Mac or Windows, sign in, and your files will start syncing immediately. The whole setup takes under two minutes.
Extra Drive works on Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android, plus any web browser. Your files are always in sync across all your devices automatically.
Yes. The free plan includes 15 GB of storage, sharing links, file previews, and two-factor authentication — no time limit, no credit card needed. You can stay on the free plan as long as you want.
Yes. You can import files directly from Dropbox or Google Drive from within the Extra Drive dashboard. Your folder structure, file names, and sharing settings are preserved. Most migrations complete within a few minutes depending on file size.
Storage & files
Free plan: up to 5 GB per file. Pro and Team plans: no file size limit. You can upload 4K video exports, raw camera files, large design archives — whatever you need.
Once you install the desktop app and choose which folders to protect, Extra Drive watches them continuously. Any new or changed file is backed up in the background within seconds — you never have to manually trigger a backup.
Yes. You can mark any file or folder as "Available offline" and it will be stored locally on your device. Changes made offline sync automatically the next time you're connected.
Free plan: 30 days of version history. Pro: 1 year. Team: unlimited version history. You can restore any previous version of a file from the web dashboard or desktop app in a single click.
Deleted files go to Trash and are recoverable for 30 days on the free plan, 1 year on Pro, and indefinitely on Team. You can restore individual files or entire folders from the Trash section in your dashboard.
Security & privacy
Yes. All files are encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and at rest using AES-256. Your encryption keys are unique to your account. We cannot read your files — not our engineers, not our support team, not anyone.
Never. We don't run AI models on your content, we don't sell metadata to advertisers, and we don't use your files to train anything. Your files are yours. Full stop.
Yes. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is available on all plans, including free. We support authenticator apps (TOTP), hardware security keys (WebAuthn/FIDO2), and SMS as a fallback.
By default, data is stored in the United States on redundant infrastructure. EU-based storage is available on Pro and Team plans, with data never leaving European data centers — useful for GDPR compliance.
Yes. Extra Drive is fully GDPR compliant. We offer a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) for business customers, EU data residency options, and full data portability — you can export or delete your data at any time.
Sharing
No. Anyone with the link can open your shared file instantly in a browser — no sign-up, no app download. You can also set a password and expiry date on any share link.
Yes. When you create a share link you can set the permission to View only, Download, or Edit. You can also invite specific people by email for private access, separate from the public link.
Yes. You can revoke or regenerate any share link at any time from the file's sharing settings. The old link immediately stops working for anyone who has it.
Real-time co-editing is currently supported for text documents and spreadsheets on the Pro and Team plans. For other file types, changes sync automatically when a collaborator saves — typically within a few seconds.
Billing & pricing
We have three plans: Free (15 GB, forever free), Pro at $8/month (2 TB, 1-year history, priority support), and Team at $6/user/month (unlimited storage, admin controls, SSO). See the full comparison on our pricing page.
Yes. Annual billing saves you 2 months compared to monthly — effectively getting the plan for $80/year instead of $96/year for Pro. You can switch between monthly and annual at any time from your account settings.
Yes, no questions asked. When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the billing period. After that, your account downgrades to the free plan automatically — your files are not deleted.
Yes. If you cancel within 30 days of starting a paid plan, we'll refund your payment in full — no questions, no forms, no waiting. Just email us at [email protected].
Yes. Students and educators get 50% off Pro with a valid school email. Registered nonprofits get the Team plan at no cost for up to 10 seats. Email us at [email protected] to apply.
Account & support
Go to Settings → Account in your dashboard. You can update your email address, password, and profile information there. Email changes require verification from both the old and new address.
Go to Settings → Account → Delete account. You'll be asked to confirm, and given the option to download all your files first. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone — all your files are removed from our servers within 30 days.
Free plan: email support with replies within 48 hours. Pro: same-day replies (usually within a few hours). Team: priority support with a dedicated channel and guaranteed 4-hour response times during business hours.
Yes. Go to Settings → Privacy → Export data to download a ZIP of all your files, folder structure, and sharing history. Your data is yours — we never hold it hostage.
